First English edition, first impression. One of 500 copies. viii, 268; iv, 271, [1, blank] pp. 2 vols. 8vo. SCARCE TWO-VOLUME EDITION OF WASHINGTON SQUARE. Blue-green cloth stamped in gilt on spines. Early owner's ink signature, dated 1882, on half-title page (of the first volume), few pages of each volume moderately foxed, else text is quite fresh and clean. The spine of each volume has been expertly and very tastefully laid down (barely visible), few very small wear spots at bottom edge of first volume, volume one has small discoloration mark on front cover, else a near fine, bright set. Signed F. & E. malleson on half-title. Edel A15b; Supino 15.3.0.
