The Raymond Excursion Party of 60 left Boston in April 1884 for an overland tour by train. The author gives descriptions of Chicago, Denver and Colorado mines, the southwest, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Monterey, etc. Spalding worked for the Hartford Evening Post and his thirteen letters on the journey were first published there before the present epistolary narrative was issued. Scarce.
