Tribute by Jorge Luis Borges for his friend Ricardo Güiraldes (1886-1927), fellow collaborator on the short lived but influential literary journals Martín Fierro and Proa, and author of the acclaimed novel Don Segundo Sombra (1926). It was Güiraldes who in 1925 introduced Borges to Victoria Ocampo, the publisher of Sur and one of the most important figures in Borges' life. Borges wrote a poem in his memory, published in 1968. This unpublished essay, written for the journal Sintesis, begins: Ricardo Güiraldes, hombre de santa inteligencia …

Donald Yates has translated the text as: “Ricardo Güiraldes, a man of saintly intelligence and saintly kindness, had a deep understanding of the world and expressed it in lucid, timeless pages …”

With a typed translation from the Spanish by Donald G. Yates, signed, and a typed letter, signed, from Yates, dated 8 August 2002, concerning the manuscript and other topics related to Borges.

A LOST AND MOVING BORGES TEXT.
