The author served as an officer in Alex Haskell's 7th South Carolina Cavalry and recounts the final days of the Confederacy. This example with provenance to Charles Herbst, who served with the First Kentucky Brigade of the Confederate Army (aka the Orphan Brigade) and following the war worked as a rare book dealer.
