Latin text and translation by James of Collectarium mansuetudinum et bonorum morum regis Henrici VI.

“Another work of pietas performed by MRJ was printing and translating the life of Henry VI by his confessor, the Carthusian monk John Blacman. … MRJ’s translation is much more readable than the original” (Pfaff, pp. 358-9).
Henry VI (1421-71) was the founder of Eton. Pfaff describes this work as a “spritiual memoir … rather than a life”. “Henry VI’s meekness and religious feeling were described by his first biographer John Blacman, a text James was later to translate. This work is still quoted every year at the Founder’s Day service in chapel on 6 December, the feast of St. Nicholas, and the birthday of Henry VI” (Paul Quarrie, M. R. James at Eton).

Uncommon.
