The Water Witch was written in Naples and was first printed in Dresden in September 1830, a month before the English edition, and prior to the American edition. BAL records examples of the first Amerian editionwith and without the ads preceding the title in vol. 1, and with ads of varying dates from November 1830 to September 1831 (as here).
