16pp. Uncut and unopened. 8vo. Unbound. Minor soiling. Eberstadt 160-034; Sabin 68197. Item #319688
A scarce Bleeding Kansas and Election of 1856 campaign handbill, harshly accusing Fremont and the Republicans of establishing and legalizing slavery in Texas, Kansas, and New Mexico. An effective demonstration of the fact that Democrats had to oppose the extension of slavery to appeal for support in the North, while taking the opposite position in the South.
While issued without imprint, there is some speculation that the pamphlet was published in Cincinnati at the time of the 1856 Democratic Convention.
