Apropros the week spent shooting in Oudh, Warren's host, Lucri Sahib, plenipotentiary of the prince, lamented "I'm sorry that I can't promise you a tiger. They are very scarce in my district and I have not seen one for over a year; but there are plenty of birds, nylghai, deer, pig and panther, so we shall have plenty of sport." Indeed they did, travelling north from Balrampur by four-horsed carriage they spent the following days bagging snipe, deer, pigs, nylghai, leopard, stags and a jackal - but alas no tigers. Warren's shooting adventure is augmented with four images, depicting a hunting elephant, the party atop an elephant, flying game and beaters closing in.
