Robert Silvers was managing editor of the Paris Review from 1954 to 1956, when he lived on a barge on the Seine. Silvers recalled meeting Plimpton: “Ever since that day in 1954, I’ve been an editor. Perhaps the luckiest ever.”
Silvers lived in the Plimpton house on east 72nd street when he returned to New York and was founding editor of the New York Review of Books.
