Edward Carpenter (1844-1929), a gay icon, was drawn to Hinduism andd tarveled to India and Ceylon in 1890. His account of the travel was published herein. The book's spiritual explorations would subsequently influence the Russian author Peter Ouspensky, who discusses it extensively in his own book, Tertium Organum (1912).
