Extracts from the Abbé Raynal's L'Histoire Philosophique & Politique des Etablissmens & du Commerce des Européens dans les deux Indes (1780, 4 vols). The present volume covers just the French possessions in the West Indies: Saint-Domingue (Haiti), Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Cayenne, with the addition of an account of Tobago, which had just passed into French hands. It later reverted to British. The large engraved chart at the rear lists exports (sugar, cacao, coffee, cotton, timber, etc.) from the various French colonial possessions.
