Field writes to say that he will attend the 250th anniversary celebration of his hometown of Guilford, Connecticut, which was held in September of 1889. Present with the letter is a small group of telegram forms dating from December 1869, most to Field, regarding scheduled dates of appearances before judges, evidently in the matter of the attempts by Jay Gould and Jay Fisk to corner the gold market, which resulted in the Black Friday scare of September 1869; Field was one of the attorneys representing Gould, and the group includes a secretarial copy of a telegram from Field to Gould.
