It was estimated that in 1929 women speculators accounted for thirty five per cent of the retail market, and were an increasing force to be reckoned with, so much so they were given their own private rooms at the brokers for the daily tape-watching" (Dennistoun). Portions of the books were first published in a series of articles for the Saturday Evening Post.
