A canoe trip started on September 3, 1900 by Joseph W. Smith of Andover, Mass. and his friend and classmate Norman Reoch of Riverpoint, R.I. on Sebago Lake. During a storm on September 12, Smith was drowned when the canoe capsized and this account was retreived from his effects at the bottom of the lake. the illustrations opposite pages 25 and 40 are from films also found with the log.
