First edition of this important early work on baseball history, with a focus on the game's history in California, inscribed by the author Seymour R. Church to H.V. Halston, proprietor of the Hotel San Rafael, 50 minutes north of San Francisco.
The list of subscribers includes Henry Chadwick. Part one of a proposed series on base ball history; a fire destroyed Church's business and baseball collection and no further volumes were published.
