Comprehensive manuscript record of French thinking and teachings on artillery and military logistics, at the time of the Crimean War, from the French officer training school, the Ecole d’Etat-Major (now the École Supérieure de Guerre), in a small and legible hand, comprising notes on 24 lessons covering transport of artillery and other materiel in time of war, the function of the artillery in attack and defense, fixed batteries and field artillery, and matters of military administration.

The binding bears the name L. Juillet at the foot of the spine. Louis-Gabriel Juillet was a member of the promotion of 1856-7.
