Wakoski writes to her publisher William Targ to deliver news of her travel in Yugoslavia with Gerard Stodolski on a Fulbright, her plans for an upcoming sabbatical, and bemoaning the frequency of recurrance of annual holidays and the general cultural tendency to look to the future: "It is so hard to live in the present when one has to constantly be preparing for all these things in the future which we are constantly made aware of ... When we talk of today's youth having more pressures on them than previously ... I think what we mean is that they never, like us, have an opportunity to live in the present and simply savor what is there. It is from childhood on a continual question: what are you going to do? what are you go to be?" etc. Targ Editions published Wakoski's collection, Saturn's Rings, in 1982, in an edition of 250.
