The Black Sun Press edition of excerpts from Joyce's Work in Progress (later Finnegans Wake). The three selections — "The Mookse and the Gripes,’" "The Muddest Thick That Was Ever Heard Dump," and "The Ondt and the Gracehoper" — were previously published in the journal "transition" but were further edited and expanded by Joyce for publication here. The frontispiece is by Constantin Brancusi, who took the commission — his only book illustration — after Picasso declined.
