Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966) humorously declines an invention, pleading poverty and overwork. Reading in part: "You must be crazy — don't you know that the 28th is the night of the annual chicken-pie social? Even if it wasn't, me dear boy, I fear I couldn't do it. I'm up to my ears in work. You can't rent a dress suit now-a-days for less than two dollars, & my other two suits are in such condition that I dare got to Windsor only at night … winter seems to be about the only time I can get a little work done — in summer I have about as much privacy as a traffic policeman …"
