Born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, Henry van Dyke, Jr. (1852-1933) was an American author, clergyman and educator best known for his religiously themed short stories and hymns, including “The Other Wiseman” (1896) and the popular hymn, “Joyful, Jouyful, We Adore Thee,” as well as his poem “Time is,” part of which was read at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.
