The H.G. Wells story, “The Pearl of Love,” translated by the “amusing & interesting Levantine writer” Odette Keun, at the peak of Wells’ infatuation with her, published here in this elegant edition. Wells dedicated The World of William Clissold (1926) to her, and built a house in the south of France for himself and Odetteto Keun, but their nine-year liaison came to an end after a “diabolically bitter row.” Wells subsequently portrayed her in unflattering light in Apropos of Dolores (1938).

Uncommon signed.
