Item #310902

Vollard's continuation of Jarry's satirical Père Ubu character, illustrated with etchings and woodcuts by Rouault made with his unorthodox technique. "It has been shown that his original gouache sketches were transferred by photography to the copper-plate, which the artist then worked over with etching, aquatint, and drypoint to attain the dark and heavy texture" (The Artist and the Book).
