Howe thanks a woman in Utica who had recently hosted her during a lecture tour. In part: "After my pleasant visit in Utica, I proceded to Syracuse, where I enjoyed a good audience for my lecture, and the meeting with a number of friends, old and new. I was obliged to start for Boston so very early on the day following my lecture ... I managed to get through with my work in the latter city, but was so much fatigued, having spoken five days in succession, that I could not return to Syracuse, as I had promised to do, but was obliged to return home at once, for needed rest ... I have not forgotten my very restful day under your roof...."
