A handbill advertising a screening in Atlantic City, New Jersey, of what remains one of the most controversial American films, The Birth of a Nation, dating from the year of the film's release. The Birth of a Nation was banned in numerous cities, including Atlantic City, following intense protests after the film's release. An article in the New York Times on August 15 notes that an order was issued to not to interfere with the film's exhibition at the New Nixon after the Director of Public Safety for Atlantic City gave notice that it would be banned.
