Presentation album of original drawings and autograph sentiments to John Lovejoy Elliott (1868-1942), Founder of the Hudson Guild Settlement House and an Ethical Culture Society Leader. Given on the occasion of a dinner in his honor on May 26, 1930.
The album opens with a calligraphic title-page, "Dedicated to John L. Elliott by His Friends and coworkers of the United Neighborhood Houses as a Token of Their Esteem and Their Love," followed by a pencil portrait sketch of Elliot and 6-pages of original watercolor drawings displaying highlights of Elliott's career and good deeds. The following album leaves are filled with original drawings, poems, and autograph sentiments and signatures from Elliott's fellow reformers, staff, clients, and public officials. Some notable contributors to the album included Lilian D. Wald, founder of the Henry Street Settlement, one of the founders of NAACP, and an advocate for nurses in public school; Rachel Hays Sulzberger, the vice president of the United Neighborhood Houses; Rose Gruening, founder of the Grand Street Settlement in 1916.
