Jacobs (1863-1943), who is probably best known for his macabre tale "The Monkey's Paw," reading in part: "I am sorry that a letter miscarried - I addressed it well. I suffer they will pay for the M.S.S out to America ... if not perhaps the "Saint" of Authors will take the matter up for me. I think that "Skipper's Wooing" ought to fetch £ 150..."
