Item #308405

A revery by short story writer and poet A.E. Coppard (1878–1957). “Coppard was an innovator in the English short story: he frequently presented a woman's point of view, and his writing strongly conveys the mystery and unpredictability of life” (OED), as indeed does this short work of verse.

Inscribed by the author to Frederic Prokosch on the first leaf, “For Frederic Prokosch Fraternally from A.E. Coppard Long Wittendam Christmas 1931”, with 4 lines of deprecatory verse below: “I did not plant the clothing, / I only made the bones, / So pray reserve your loathing, / And don’t cast any stones.”.
