D.G. Hogarth, a distinguished archaeologist and scholar, was a close friend and mentor of Lawrence, whom he introduced to Doughty. Hogarth assembled materials for a life of his friend despite Doughty’s reluctance, and assembled the biography but did not live to see its publication, which was overseen by his son.
