Original steel-engraved plates after Doré for a Philadelphia edition of Tennyson's Idylls of the King. The illustrated Doré edition was first published by Moxon in London, 1867-8, with 36 steel-engraved plates.
Comprising:
"The Coming of Aurthur," "Guinevere," "Merlin and Vivien (4)," "Balin and Balan," "Gareth and Lynette," "Lancelot and Elaine (3)," "Geraint and Enid."
We find no record of a Gebbie & Co edition of Idylls of the King. Gebbie did print an edition of Doré's illustrated Don Quixote in 1866 and The Wandering Jew in 1873.
