New York: printed at the Come!Unity Press by The Gay Science Fiction Collective, .
Illustrated broadside printed in three colors. 14 x 8.5 inches. Gay Science Fiction. Fine. Item #307879
A visually striking poster advertising the formation of a journal devoted to gay science-fiction literature. Depciting two women hiking through a desert/alien landscape, with a rising orange sun and full moon in the background, and a person flying on a winged contraption above. The text reads: "A Gay Science Fiction Magazine is being formed by lesbians and gay men. What is this thing going to be about? We don't know yet. Call us and we'll find out. We need contributions of articles, poems, short stories, illustrations, and if possible photographs. Money is also needed, and we would like to meet people familiar with the arts of printing and layout (or those who would like to learn) to work on the magazine." The meeting was to take place in the "Village/ Union Square area," and the contact is listed as the Gay Science Fiction Collective. Unfortunately, nothing seems to have come of the meeting; there is no trace of the Collective or the journal that it sought to create.
The poster was printed at the Come!Unity Press, a gay anarchist collective print shop operating from East 17th Street in New York in the 1970s, which was "designed for cooperative use by all resistance movements that provide equal acces to the poor," as expressed on a 8.5 x 8.5 inch color-printed handbill adversiting the press which accompanies the poster.
