Gay Vance was the wife of Cyrus Vance (1917-2002), who succeeded Kissinger as Secretary of State, occupying the post from 1977-1980. The two men maintained a close relationship, Kissinger serving as pall bearer and delivering the eulogy at Vance's funeral.
