Demetrius, "An imitation of Byron … inspired by the struggle of the Greeks against the Turks" (ODNB) was Strickland's (1796-1874) final work of poetry before turning to the writing of history. With her sister Elizabeth she wrote a pioneering Lives of the Queens of England and Scotland.
