Bourayne writes to fellow navy director, de Gay, regarding artilliery depots during the Napoleonic wars - a year before the Battle of Waterloo
Bourayne was highly regarded by Napoleon, who made him Baron of the Empire just prior to the writing of the letter. He continued to climb the ranks of the navy and was made Contre-amiral the following year and later prefect of Brest.
