554 leaves. Titles within woodcut border; text in two columns, and in black letter. 1 vols. 4to. 1608 Geneva Bible. Later blind-rolled calf, worn (joints rubbed but holding). Institutional bookplate and the discreet stamp of a previous owner on the lower margin of title page; a few headlines closely cropped, marginal flaw in p. 231 of Psalmes (affecting a few lines of commentary). An excellent example of the Geneva Bible, the principal Bible of 16th-century Protestantism, and the Bible used by Shakespeare, Oliver Cromwell, John Knox, John Donne, and John Bunyan. This edition contains the famous reading "breeches" in Genesis Chapter III, verse 7, which first appeared in 1579.
