The second edition of Bowles' sonnet sequence, which was a major source of inspiration for a young Samuel Taylor Coleridge and helped revive the sonnet form in English.
The first edition, published as Fourteen Sonnets, Elegiac and Descriptive, in 1789, is exceedingly rare — Hayward located only two copies. The Bradley Martin copy of the first edition brought $12,000 at his sale in 1990.
