Item #302503

The most popular and delightfully readable book by Fuller (1607-1661) who is widely admired as among the great English prose stylists of the the 17th century. The Holy State is a collection of short portraits of historical characters — both men and women — interspersed with chapters on professions and states of life human (e.g., “The Good Soldier,” “The Good Schoolmaster,” “The Hypocrite,” etc.) It was first reprinted in 1648, and innumerable times since.
