Signed on the diagonal by Hearn on ffep "Lafadio Hearn/ New Orleans 1885."
With a long note signed by Mitchell McDonald, executor of Hearn's estate, indicating that this was one of 597 books from Hearn’s library surrendered to the estate by George M. Gould (author of "Concerning Lafcadio Hearn") in August 1908.
Opposite the title-page is an inscription from Hearn's wife, Setsu Koizumi, to Hearn's biographer: "To Mrs Elizabeth Bisland Wetmore, as a token of gratitude and affection. [signature in Japanese.]" Following Koizumi's signature is the "chop" of Lafcadio Hearn.
