Claremont, January 8th, 1830.” Following his active participation in the Napoleonic wars, and on the marriage of the Princess Charlotte, Sir Robert Gardiner was appointed principal equerry to Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg. He maintained that post until Leopold became King of the Belgians. He remained at Claremont. From 1848 until 1855 he was governor and commander in chief of Gibraltar.
