Item #29122
A well illustrated edition of the dramatist's ingenuously frank autobiography and description of the Restoration and early 18th theatre. Cibber (1671-1757) was an actor, and the author of the comedies The Careless Husband, and Love's Last Shift; he was also generally considered one of the worst poets to hold the office of Poet Laureate (which he did for the last 27 years of his life)--it was, he cheerfully admitted, strictly a political appointment for being a good Whig.
