Item #29065

Responding to Hartley's letter enquiring about the influence of her formal education on her writing. She responds “I think of education, though, as rewarding, satisfying, a help inmaking life seem more full and rich and stimulating. But a help, and nothing more. I'm sure that Hart's life, or Hemingway's or Mencken's or whoever's–that they are full and rich and rewarding too without high school in Hart's case, and without college in the others”.
