Perrin, the eminent French physicist, was known for his research on the Brownian movement of particles and for making the discovery which allowed the accurate calculation of atomic size.¶ The translator, British physicist, Frederick Soddy, was noted in the field of atomic energy. With Ernest Rutherford he had established the existence of atomic energy through showing atomic disintegration of radioactive elements and he is credited with the concept of isotopes and the "displacement law of radioactive change" which led to nuclear physics.
