Thomas Moran (1837-1926) was born in England, emigrating to America at the age of seven. He began his art career as a wood engraver in Philadelphia, and taught himself to paint in oil and watercolor, establishing himself permanently in New York in 1872. He spent his summers at his country home in Easthamption, from whence this card was sent. He was elected to the National Academy, and was a member of numerous art societies. During his career he worked as an etcher, and in oils and watercolors, all with equal felicity and success.
