Childe Hassam (1859-1935) was born in Boston and studied there and in Paris, where he came under the influence of Monet and developed a personal style of Impressionisn. His work was shown at the celebrated Armory show of 1913 (which was the principal means of introducing “Modern”, ie, Post-Impressionist, art to America). He was elected a member of the National Academy in 1909 and had a distinguished career; his work appears in numerous American collections. Individual autographs of his are very scarce.
