Writing to Grant that he was forwarding the “only information, which I have been able to procure relative to the two officers of the East Indian Service who are said to have interest in the society of Volunteers in Dublin” (not present) and that he presumes that he would have heard had Sir William had any further particulars. Stanley at this time was Chief Secretary for Ireland and MP for North Lancashire and this year he achieved much for Irish legislation including the Irish Church Temporalities Acts. It was also a time when his battle against O'Connell and associates was going strong.
