One is of a seated woman (inscribed on back “Fanny Sayre Foster / Grandmother Foster”); one is of a bearded man in military uniform (inscribed on back “Chas. N. Silliman”); the third is of a young man in cadet uniform (inscribed on back “Maj. Warner / Montrose, Pa. / When at W. Point”).

The bearded man an artillery sergeant (with two years' service) in the Union Army; the cadet (the future Major Warner) is described in a modern attached note on the frame as having “Served thru the Civil War”.
