Item #264541

Portfolio of 24 hand-colored aquatint plates printed on thick handmade wove paper from the Ackerman edition (London: 1817) of Oliver Goldsmith's “Vicar of Wakefield.” The plates here are bound in the same order they appeared in Goldsmith's novel, but lack the imprint information that appeared on each plate in that edition. The plate mark of each image in the volume measures 9 by 6 inches, dimensions consistent with the size of the plates in the printed book and presumably it was produced as a deluxe, and perhaps unique companion to the novel. No listings in OCLC for titles comprising the plates only. The volume shows wear from usage, but the plates themselves remain bright.
