The author was the Rector of Witchampton, Dorset,Chaplain of Lord Vere and Preacher at Market-Harborough. He was the author of many theological works and sermons.¶ Written in response to Dr. Kennicott's assertion that the Jews were to blame for the corruption of the Pentateuch with respect to the variations between the Jewish and Samaritan copies. The author, attempting to be impartial, examines and compares the versions, citing other scholars and texts and his findings were that the corruption was in the Samaritan text.
