“Baxter's most distinguished work in the field of book illustration" (Friedman). George Baxter developed a novel method of color printing that achieved a richness of color and tone ideally suited for the reproduction of paintings. He combined both intaglio and relief printing processes, starting with an original black and white intaglio image and layering successive printings of color woodblocks. An attractive copy in its original publisher’s deluxe binding.
