Quarter contemporary brown morocco and pebbled cloth, t.e.g. With a presentation on the ffep, “Emily Davis/ A Legacy from her cousin/ Emma White,/ The Artist./ Obiit 18 April 1888.” Item #252541
An album of highly accomplished amateur watercolors of flowers — including the double oleander, tiger lilly, China rose, viola, poppy, and tulip.
It is very faintly possible that this album represents an early showing of art by a Minnesota seedswoman, Emma V. White, who published seed catalogs in 1896, 1900 and 1906, or that the Emma V. White whose work appeared in commercial catalogs was a relation: the surviving documentation makes it difficult to be sure.
In either case, this is a striking album of original watercolors, each marked with the common or Latin name of the flower (though the images are so well-realized that the name is scarcely necessary).
