This is the scarce first edition of Hamilton's study of the Mexican states that run along the border of the United States.  Apparently, he hoped that this region would be settled by the "advance guard of American civilization."  Contains much useful information on mining, agriculture, businesses, exports, imports, trade duties, railroads, land availability, etc.  Scarce on the market, with only one copy appearing at auction in the last thirty years.
